“Do this in remembrance of Me”

Luke 22:19

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

Today is Ash Wednesday and all around the world Christians are preparing for 40 days of fasting and praying. They’re making a decision to deny the flesh and to walk in the Spirit. I’m reminded of the beautiful, loving sacrifice that Jesus made for us. I love the Lord’s Supper and I take it very seriously. It’s a reminder of Jesus laying down His life for ours. As Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it and share it with His disciple, He told them that this is His body which is given for you; “do this in remembrance of Me.” The Lords Supper is not something to take lightly. It’s not a snack, it’s not a little grape juice or a shot of wine. It’s a solemn moment. It’s a time of remembrance. When you take the bread it’s a symbol of Jesus’ broken body; the cup which is His shed blood. He was beaten; spit on; crown with thorns. Then He laid down on the cross and allowed them to put nails in His hands and feet. My heart hurts when I hear and see people not taking this sacred moment seriously. He died for us. He shed blood for us. He took our beating. It’s not a joking matter. It’s a time of thanksgiving; a time of praise for all that Jesus has done for us. So the next time you receive the Lords’ Supper, remember what Jesus has done for you. Lord, I’m not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Love,

Delphine
